It's actually a beautiful golf course with a fantastic restaurant.

Being a Home Business owner is great because I can come and go as I please and if I want to play nine holes after lunch, I can.

So, while eating a signature "Doug DeCinces" chicken sandwich (the former Major Leaguer is one of the owners), my friend and I were talking about the state of corporate life these days. As we looked around, it was obvious that many nine-to-fivers from nearby offices had made their way here for their one-hour lunch break.

The idea of being confined to a cubicle 8 hours a day was to us, a very sad existence. We both had been in that situation before, in fact for the same company, so we knew just how pathetic it was.

There were a couple important things we realized:

First, how grateful we are to be self-employed home business entrepreneurs (working outside the box, so to speak)...

And second, Robert Kiyosaki's Cash Flow Quadrant.

I'm sure you've heard of it but if you haven't, the Cash Flow Quadrant is an interesting concept created by best selling author and financial expert, Robert Kiyosaki. His book, Cash Flow Quadrant has sold over 20 million copies.

Briefly, the Cash Flow Quadrant consists of 4 basic types of people in the business world—all 4 with a completely unique set of core values. It looks like this:

"E" for employees (the people here on their lunch breaks)

"S" for small business owners (you and I)

"B" for big business owners (like a Bill Gates or a Donald Trump)

"I" for investors (hopefully everyone)

Kiyosaki says there's entirely new set of rules out there for those seeking to be rich. Rules most people are unaware of. Odds are that the cubicle workers on their lunch breaks all around the world have no idea that the "S", "B" or even "I" Quadrants are available to them.

Lastly, of all the business models Robert Kiyosaki mentions within the Cash Flow Quadrant, the "Direct Sales" business model is his recommendation and says it's the "perfect business model for the 21st Century."

And, "It's not money that makes you rich, it's business skills" and in Direct Sales, those skills are taught from the start, without costing an arm and a leg.

Kiyosaki also mentions the importance of having control over your income. If you're not taking action and building your own business then you haven't much control. It seems obvious but it's extremely important.

And here's why:

"It's not money that makes you rich, it's business skills" and many of those skills can be learned within the Direct Sales industry.

Why did I feel so uncomfortable? Out of my skin? I was doing everything my sponsors and upline coaches were telling me, but it wasn't working and I was miserable.

I knew of successful working mothers in the network marketing industry and I knew of successful single dads, too. They had triple the obstacles I had. So why was I having such a hard time?

Well, I thought about that and I remembered something from my high school days (the "Glory Days", a buddy of mine called them during a recent reunion) that got me to thinking.

In high school, I was on the track team and my best race was the mile. I also ran the half-mile and the mile relay occasionally. (I'm dating myself now because everything's in meters nowadays!!)

During my senior year, I set a goal for myself of running a 4:10 mile. My previous best was a 4:27 in which I placed second at State Championships the previous year. Our school record was 4:24 and the All-time Nevada State High School mile record was 4:19 set in 1965—so my goal was pretty "out there". (What's the point of a setting a goal you know you can reach anyway, right?)

I even had a t-shirt printed up with "4:10" in big numbers across the front. I would wear it during warm-ups at each track meet. Some of my teammates thought I was nuts and I would hear guys from other schools crack jokes as I jogged by.

(Sound familiar?)

Anyway, I worked my tail off that season. I put in 50 to 70 miles a week. I trained everyday after school from 2:30 to 5:30pm with races on Saturdays and a long run on Sundays. 4 days a week I jogged 3 miles in morning before school.

I would even run through the halls from one class to the next during school, I put off staying out late at night with friends and I didn't have a drop of alcohol the entire season.

My coach taught me the importance of having a good attitude and supporting my teammates during workouts—cheering them on, etc. (I had no clue how important that was! When I supported my teammates, it came back to me ten-fold.)

I learned about meditation and the art of visualization and I experienced myself winning the State Championship in the record-shattering time of 4:10, over and over again. I was on a mission!

Three weeks before the State meet, I broke our school record by one second with a time of 4:23.

Before I tell you what happened next, let me just tell you why this story is so significant....

When I started my network marketing career, I failed miserably for years. I had a sponsor and upline that was extremely well-versed in the traditional marketing methods of MLM. (And you know what that means...)

Well, I would put some time in here and there. Buy leads. Make calls. Put out flyers. Hand out samples. Buy more samples. Hand out CDs. You know the drill...a part-time effort.

The thing is, I wasn't comfortable with old school, traditional network marketing. So uncomfortable in fact, that I was always trying to reinvent the wheel instead by designing my own flyers or other marketing pieces.

Consequently, procrastination became enemy number one. I would spend my time getting ready to get ready to work on my business.

And inconsistency become enemy number two. I would get on phone and call leads for two hours one day and forget about it the next. (Calling cold leads was painful—almost as bad as going to weekly opportunity meetings!)

I just didn't feel good about the type of marketing methods my sponsor and upline advocated. I felt like a fish out of water. Awkward. It was hard for me to put in the necessary work consistently over time to produce the results I desired.

It just wasn't working. I wasn't making any progress and I felt bad about myself for it.

This was the exact opposite of how I felt in high school track where I was in alignment with my coach, team support, training and my goals. I had confidence in myself and in my abilities. Putting in the work was natural. I was in the flow.

When I look back at my accomplishments during that high school track season and break down exactly why I was able to do what I did, I see the recipe for success:

1. A worthy goal
2. Good coaching
3. An excellent plan I felt good about executing
4. A great attitude, helping others
5. Dedication, ambition, determination
6. Good diet and plenty of rest
7. Consistent action
8. Belief and confidence through meditation, visualization and results

It's clear to me I needed to apply these same principles to my network marketing career. If I could do that then success would naturally follow!

Today, I continue to learn from excellent coaching. I feel comfortable with executing my plan in Attraction Marketing. I'm in the flow. I'm taking consistent action, and I'm seeing results, which increases my confidence.

It's apparent to me that if you're lacking in any one of above ingredients, you'll have a tough time reaching your goal. So make sure you're involved with the right company, following the advice of an excellent coach and feel good about your plan of action or you could be in for some misery.

So, back to what happened....

Well, a week after I broke the school record, I came down with a cold. Not good. We had a State Qualifying meet that weekend where I needed to place in the top 4 to qualify.

It was a cold windy day and I wasn't feeling that good but somehow still managed to win with a slow 4:29. Whew! Now I had to recover and get ready for the State finals the following weekend.

In the back of my mind, I wasn't very confident about my ability to reach 4:10 or to even break 4:20 after that last race, but I kept up with my routine anyway.

I never lost my vision or focus on my goal and kept up the intensity of my training. I worked. I prepared. I visualized. I pushed away doubts. I kept wearing my 4:10 t-shirt.

Two weeks later in Las Vegas, I became the State Champion and All-time Nevada State High School record holder in the mile run with a time of 4:15.

Not quite 4:10, however, it was 8 seconds faster than my personal best and 4 seconds faster than the All-time High School State record!

I was beyond thrilled. It CAN be done!

Your Partner in Success,

Steve Lauri

Attraction Marketing: Build It And They Will Come.

Attraction Marketing is a relatively new concept among network marketers. For the last half a century networkers have been taught to approach family and friends to build their businesses, and when their ‘warm’ market is tapped, to go after anyone within talking distance, hence the ‘3 foot rule’. This ridiculous ideology has all but trashed the MLM industry's reputation. No wonder it has such a negative connotation to so many people.

Well, if you’ve been ‘coachable’ and following the directions of your ill-informed upline, then you can most likely relate. It’s the ‘old school’ ideology and 90+ percent of all network marketers are being taught this. So it’s not your fault that you've had little or no success employing these sometimes agonizing tactics.

Now, some people can have very good success with those types of methods but most of us cannot. That’s why the failure rate in MLM is so high.

Attraction Marketing is the life preserver most network marketers desperately need. If you've been struggling to stay afloat, read on...

What exactly is ‘Attraction Marketing’?

Well, simply stated, it’s a method of marketing that ‘pulls’ people in. There are two types of marketing: ‘push marketing’ and ‘pull marketing’. ‘Push’ means that your marketing efforts (word-of-mouth, email, Internet, brochures, etc.) are pushed out to your audience. ‘Pull’ means that the audience is pulled in by your marketing efforts.

For example, someone finds something you authored through a Google search. It could be an article, newsletter or even a forum post. They like what they’ve read and therefore, click to find out more about you and what you have to offer.

This method is so much more effective and enjoyable. Properly done, you’ll have hundreds of people every month requesting more information from you—people who are interested in what you have to say because you’ve positioned yourself to be a leader and an expert in your field. You’ll have the self-respect and satisfaction of a professional network marketer. Nice.

So how do you actually begin using Attraction Marketing to build your business?

The idea is to build a web presence (blogs, articles, web sites, forum posts, etc.) so that people can find you. Your web presence is your magnet. Then you want to give your audience a way to request more information from you, whether that’s in the form of an ebook, newsletter or free report of some kind. By doing so, you’ll begin to build a list of people interested in what you have to offer. And lastly, communicate with your list. Give them value on a regular basis. So here’s the Attraction Marketing model: Internet Marketing —> Lead Capture —> Build List —> Communicate.

To do Attraction Marketing right, you have to invest some time toward educating yourself on the topic. It’s somewhat complex and can be overwhelming at first. But don’t let that stop you from getting starting. It is a building block process. A good starting place is Renegade Professional.

I compare it moving into your first apartment. You might have a beanbag chair and a wooden orange crate for a coffee table. Then you begin adding furniture and decorations, and before you know it, you’ve got so much stuff you’re ready to get a bigger place.

Get started...and in three to four months, you’ll be glad you did.

It CAN be done!

From Street Hustler To Professional Network Marketer.

Define Your Target Audience For MLM Success.

This is advertising and marketing 101. Network marketing, direct sales or multilevel marketing should be no different. Just because you’re not a big New York advertising agency or a slick Chicago marketing firm doesn’t mean you can’t do what they do.

Before the pros begin a project, they do their homework. The first thing they do is define the product and the target audience. What are they selling and who exactly are they going to talk to? The answers will affect the ad or marketing communications piece they develop.

For instance, let’s say the product is a set of golf clubs. The pros will get very specific but basically, they’ll target people who play golf, are interested in golf and have purchased golf clubs before.

They’ll talk to them in their language. The advertising and marketing pieces they create will talk to them about their golf swing or their golf score. About how to get more birdies and pars, and less hooks and slices, because golfers relate to that. The more they can identify with them the more they gain trust. Pretty straight forward, huh?

Next, the professional ad agencies and marketing firms will then choose specific media in which to run their ads. Golf magazines, The Golf Channel, commercials during televised golf tournaments and point-of-purchase displays in golf course pro shops among others.

They won’t waste money running ads in Better Housekeeping, because although there may be some housekeepers who play golf, more likely than not, there won’t be.

How does this relate to network marketing? How can we apply what the pros do to our MLM business? And, why will it make a difference? Great questions…let’s talk about them.

Let’s start at the beginning by defining our product and target market just like the pros.

Now, unlike a golf club company, in network marketing we also sell a business opportunity. So really, there are two products being sold: the product or service being offered and the business opportunity.

With regards to the product or service, it’s pretty straight forward. If you have a weight loss product, for example, you’re goal is to target people who want to lose weight and have purchased weight-loss products before. Some people are overweight and just don’t care.

If you have a health product, you’ll want to target health-conscious people or people facing a health challenge. You get the idea.

Where it gets confusing, though, is when we talk about selling the business opportunity. The problem is, most of us in network marketing were taught by our well-meaning upline that our target market was EVERYONE. And we took it at face value, without really thinking about it or even questioning it. It seemed to make sense, afterall, everyone wants to make more money, right?

So instead, let’s apply the big city ad agency method to promoting our MLM business opportunity.

Our product therefore, is our network marketing opportunity, which offers people a way to make extra income or become financially free, and everything in between.

So, is our target audience people who need extra income?

No.

Yes, there are people who need extra income but don’t necessarily desire it. If they did, they’d be looking for ways to get it, right? Some are content with poverty just like some are content with being overweight.

Some would rather watch their favorite sitcoms than look for ways to earn more money or go for a 30-minute walk.

What about people looking for ways to make extra income or looking for a business of some kind?

I would say yes, but on they’re on the fringe. I personally wouldn’t include them. I don’t know if they are open to the MLM concept or not. It’s a coin toss. These people would be considered ‘opportunity seekers’.

Remember what I said earlier with the golf clubs example?:

“…they'll target people who play golf, are interested in golf and have purchased golf clubs before.”

And if we’re selling golf clubs, that’s who we want to reach. Not bowlers. Not tennis players. Not arts and crafts enthusiasts. We want to go straight to the people who want to buy what we are selling.

Now, here’s the same statement using network marketing as the product:

“…they'll target people who do network marketing, are interested in network marketing and have purchased network marketing before.”

That’s it! That’s our target audience.

What’s great about talking to our target audience is that they already know what network marketing is and have bought into the concept. You don’t have to educate them or convince them that it’s “legal”.

You won’t get rejected, shamed or ridiculed. Your target audience is on the same page with you. They identify with you. They relate to what you have to say. How refreshing.

I don’t know a fellow golfer who doesn’t like talking about golf and about how he can lower his score or what course he’s playing next!

Now that you’ve defined your target audience, you can zero in on your marketing efforts to attract like-minded people for greater success in far less time.

Once you start bringing network marketers into your business you’ll cut down on training time, hand-holding and trouble shooting. Teach them what you’ve learned about whom to target and soon you’ll be building a downline of business builders who don’t waste time and money approaching the wrong people.

It’s a beautiful thing.

Happy marketing,

P.S. – Here’s a great little ebook that goes over all the fallacies in traditional

So you’ve bought into the idea of network marketing or MLM. The light bulb goes on. You get it. Just like I did. But the mistake I made was jumping in with both feet and both eyes closed. I was seeing nothing but circles and dollar signs. Finally, my big break in life!

Earth to Steve…. Earth to Steve… Wake up, dammit!

Well, there are a number of things I should have looked at before devoting the next 18 months to a company that I would ultimately quit because of various personal differences.

Over the next couple of years, I got involved with two other companies. After investing considerable time and money, both eventually went out of business.

By now I’m thinking maybe this isn’t such a great idea, but an associate of mine calls and introduces me to a new company. Now, with a little experience under my belt and some battle scars, I decided to do some homework. Yes, I looked into this company, but I also looked into many others.

I researched the MLM industry as a whole and the different types of comp plans. I looked at economic trends. I learned about factors that impacted a company’s ultimate success, like leadership, ingenuity, infrastructure, financial strength and track record. I decided if I was going to be serious about building a long-term residual income, I would only succeed with a company that I could believe in, had a great product or service and was going to be around for a long, long time.

With all that in mind, I found the right company for me. And, for the last few years I’ve enjoyed the kind of success only a small percentage of network marketers ever do. Doing my homework paid off and it can for you too.

So here’s how to choose the RIGHT network marketing company. There are 5 key components you want to look at:

1. Product or service driving the opportunity
2. Company
3. Compensation plan
4. Training and support
5. Marketing system

Let’s talk about each briefly, so you know what to look for.

The Product

First, the product or service has to match your particular taste. It has to be something you want use or consume yourself and something that you feel good about. It shouldn’t be something you just tolerate. More importantly, it must be a product or service that is matching current market trends.

What does that mean?

Well, whatever trends that are going on out in the market place right now, for example, baby boomers are 80 million strong and are aging. They’re approaching retirement. So, products and services that cater to their needs are going to be in high demand.

Baby boomers don’t like the idea of aging so they are particularly interested in health and wellness. So a nutritional supplement of some kind would be one product that is matching current market trends.

The Company

When it comes to evaluating the company, you want to look at several things. Number one, who runs it? Who is the CEO and what is his experience? What is his vision for the company? What is his mission? Google his name and see what you find. Is he or she a good person? Do they have any business running that company?

Second, what is the company’s track record? Are they a start up or have they been around for a while? Never invest your time and energy in a start up. 99% of them fail. Do they have the financial backing for expansion? What kind of infrastructure do they have in place? Are there many people currently making good incomes with them? These are all valid questions with regards to considering a company.

The Compensation Plan

How about the compensation plan? There are a number of different types of compensation plans out there, I’m going to discuss three of the most common: Unilevel, Matrix and Binary.

The Unilevel plan is very simple. With this plan, you will build an organization with everyone you personally sponsor being on your first level (front line). Everyone they sponsor would be on your second level and then everyone they sponsor would be on your third level, and so on. There is no limit to the number of people you can sponsor on your front line.

You will earn a commission on each person’s sales volume from each of your levels down to a certain level, usually 6 levels. In most cases, you will have to qualify with personal sales volume to earn commissions and then with team sales volume to get paid on levels 4, 5 and 6.

The Matrix is a set grid that gets filled in. The most common is a 3 x 5 matrix (although there are many others). Here you have 3 fixed positions on the top level, 9 on the second, 27 on the third, 81 on the fourth and 243 on the 5 and final level. Each position has it’s own matrix.

Since there is only 3 positions available on the top level, the fourth person you sponsor would automatically fall into the second level under someone who your previously sponsored. This is called “spillover” and the people who receive spillover are usually ecstatic about it. Unfortunately, since you can get paid based on spillover alone, many people just sit and wait for it and never build their business.

In both plans above, you are limited by levels. For example, if someone in your downline who happens to be on your bottom level sponsors a superstar, you’re out of luck. You can’t capture any commissions based on his and/or his team’s production. Those plans don’t pay past a specific level.

The Binary plan is based on two lines. Each person has two top positions he or she can sponsor people into, one on the left and one on the right. Each of those two positions also has two positions, and so on. After your two top positions are filled, the next person you sponsor would go to the bottom of either side.

Each position effectively has two organizations (left and right) and is paid commissions based on combined sales of both. The Binary plan is by far the most powerful of the three. In a Binary, you are paid on sales volume not levels. There is no limit to the number of levels you can have. Therefore if someone on your 45th level, for example, sponsors a superstar, his and/or his entire team’s sales volume count toward your commissions. Your income is unlimited in a Binary system.

Top-Tier Direct Sales is in a whole other league. Although it is part of the network marketing industry, it isn't MLM. Here's how it works....

A direct sales company usually offers a few different high-ticket products, for example, their entry-level product may retail for $1,500 and their high-end product might be $15,000. Consultants earn large up-front commissions plus residual commissions from sales made by people they've personally sponsored.

A good direct sales compensation structure will have NO pass-up sales constrictions. Many do, so be careful. What that means is, your commissions on your first and second sales are passed up to your sponsor—even though you made the sales. (What's wrong with that picture?)

A major problem contributing to the failure rate of network marketers is solved with a good Top-Tier Direct Sales company and the large up-front commissions. They really help you sustain your marketing efforts while you're just starting out. With a good marketing system in place, it's not uncommon for people to earn over 5 figures per month by their 3rd or 4th month in their business.

Training and Support

After the comp plan, the next thing you want to look at when evaluating an network marketing company is the training and support available. Can you do this? Do they offer regular training calls? Do the have an archive of recorded calls on a variety of topics? Will you have a mentor? Is someone on your immediate team successful? Do they have a training system or workbook? Is there a member support line you can depend on? Or, will you be left to fend for yourself? These are important questions you don’t want to leave unanswered as your ability to succeed depends on the right training and support.

Marketing System

Lastly, you’ll want to make sure the company or your team has a kick-butt marketing system—one that enables you to attract quality people to your business. If your company’s or team’s only idea of a marketing system is for you to make a list of everyone you know, then it's going to be a tough grind.

You want a marketing system that does a few things for you. First, it should create targeted leads for you. Second, it should create a secondary income for you that helps cover your marketing expenses. And third, it should position you as an expert in your field and help you build a relationship with your leads. Lastly, everyone should be able to plug into it, even if they're new to the Internet and marketing. So unless you feel very good about making a list and approaching your friends and family, look for a company or team who has type of marketing system in place. If they don't, your chances of success are severely diminished.

When you consider the above 5 components when looking into a network marketing company, you will find the RIGHT company for you, and increase your odds of success 100 fold.

If only I knew then what I know now...

It CAN be done!

“Oh no, here he comes…quick, hide.”
–John Doe, friend of a network marketer.

If you’re at all like me, at some point you’ve asked yourself if there’s a better way than making a list of everyone you know and pitching them on your new MLM, right? I mean, when your sister-in-law’s attorney boyfriend asks you, “so, who’s at the top of the pyramid?” at a family gathering, you’ve got to wonder.

Or, spending 4 hours in the blazing sun putting “sizzle” cards on car windows at the shopping mall only to get one call from someone who couldn’t speak clearly enough to even understand.

Or, attending dozens of hotel meetings, with samples in hand, checking your watch, looking back toward the door only to realize your guest wasn’t going to show…again.

Or, spending hours on the phone, “dialing for dollars” as one guru puts it, trying to sift thru all the wrong number, disconnected, just filed bankruptcy, on disability, unemployed, belligerent, you name it…super-mega-quality phone leads.

How about putting flyers at apartment complexes and laundry mats? It’s humiliating all ready! At what point do you say enough?

Well, I reached that point. Let me tell you about the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I invited a friend of mine to one of my company’s opportunity meetings held at a hotel. The meeting featured a “special guest”, who I promptly edified to my friend. “Sell the guest not the meeting”, I was taught.

And not risking another no-show, I made sure to pick him up on the way to the meeting.

When we arrived, I introduced him to a few ‘key people in the company’ and we found our seats. After the presentation, the first words out of my friend’s mouth were, “if I knew I was going to have to listen to an hour and a half of pyramid scheme…blah, blah, blah…” I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

He couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Oh man, that was the longest drive back, let me tell you! That, my friends, was the straw that broke the camel’s back. That’s when I decided to start looking for a better way.

Now don’t get me wrong, some people do very well with the above methods. They’re good at them. I’m not. And, most people aren’t, either. That’s why 97% of the people who get into network marketing fail. These types of methods are not easily duplicated.

I knew there had to be a better way and that’s when I came across the concept of Attraction Marketing. (And it doesn’t involve the “3-foot rule”!)

This was truly a breakthrough for me. Instead of the usual MLM marketing techniques of chasing down prospects and trying to convince them of how great your product or opportunity is, you only market to your target audience and attract people to you and your business.

Target audience? Now we’re getting somewhere! That’s what the pros do. They only market to people who want what they have to offer. Contrary to what you’ve been taught, anyone who can fog a mirror IS NOT a prospect.

So, instead of spending your time bugging your warm market and chasing the cold, you become educated on attraction marketing techniques and begin to draw people to you and generate your own high quality leads—and get paid to do it.

The true top earners in the industry build their network marketing businesses entirely different than the other 97%. They ‘think outside the box’ and become independent experts in their chosen field, while everyone else just follows the advice of everyone else and becomes an MLM clone.

It’s not about your ‘why’ or your company’s DVD or your desire to become best friends with a total stranger at the mall only to later pitch your biz.

It’s about thinking for yourself and learning a better way to effectively get the results you desire.

You don’t have to leave your success in network marketing to hope and chance.
Achieve the success you deserve by educating yourself and taking persistent action.

When you do, you’ll then start to build a solid business by attracting your target audience and achieving success every month with predictability.

Now, as a result, your friends, family and associates begin to come to YOU to find out what you’re doing! Plus, they now see you as a true expert in your field and not their annoying MLM schemer friend.

To your freedom,

That’s when I decided to enter the world of freelance. Being my own boss agrees with me so much that there’s no way I could ever go back to working full-time for a company. I love calling my own shots and being responsible for my own paycheck. Entrepreneurship is just in me.

I think it started when I was a kid. When I was seven, I lived and grew up in Reno, Nevada. I lived in a small house on a huge lot with my Mom and Dad and two sisters. We actually had 72 trees on our property (I counted them). One day, in the middle of the summer, my Dad made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. He says, “Steve, if you pull all the weeds on the back slope, I’ll pay you $20.” Now, at seven years old in 1969, $20 was some pretty good money—let me tell you!

Well, there I was in 90-degree heat staring at a wall of weeds as tall and some taller than me. This was a pretty big slope, too. I’d say about 60 feet wide by 30 feet deep. So, I went to the top left corner and start pulling. Grabbing with both hands. Using my legs. Pulling straight up…as my Dad taught me. I worked for about half an hour and was covered with dust, pollen and sweat. I thought to myself, man this is gonna to take forever. I hadn’t even made a dent. I started getting that sinking feeling, like maybe I made a bad decision and that my whole summer was going to be wasted.

But then suddenly, I had an idea…

If I divided the slope into three sections, I could hire three people to pull the weeds in one section each. Brilliant! So, I hired two of my friends and my older sister. The deal was $5 each for a job well done. They weren’t too happy to see me sitting in the shade on the deck, but someone had to oversee this whole operation. When the last weeds were pulled and everyone was paid, I walked away with a cool $5 profit. I liked it.

Now I know why Jim Rohn says, “profits are better than wages.”

Somewhere along the way though, I think society’s programming took hold, you know, get an education, get a good job with benefits, get married, buy a house, have 2.4 kids, etc. So that’s what I did (except for the kids part). Well, I had pretty much forgotten about my valuable life Lesson 20 years earlier, and was well into keeping up with the Jones’ when my entrepreneurial spirit started to flare up like hot embers.

It was October of 1993. I was working at a hot OC ad agency and they had just hired a new controller who decided to handle the way we did estimating a little differently. With each new project, a single estimating sheet was passed around from one department to the next. Everyone was to guestimate their hours for the project. The sheet contained job titles, space for estimated hours, totals, etc. And the kicker—it also contained current agency billing rates for each job position. Whoa!

When I saw what the company was billing out my time at, I felt that sinking feeling again. Right then, I realized I was now the one pulling weeds while the company owners were sitting on the deck in the shade! Wow. My entrepreneurial spirit was on fire again. It wasn’t long after that when I quit my job at the agency and was in business for myself as a freelance art director.

Currently, in addition to owning an advertising company called The Engine Room, which I am President and Creative Director, I also am a professional Internet network marketer and LifeSuccess coach.

Even though, at times, it’s been a roller coaster, the freedom of being in business for myself has been worth it.

It CAN be done!

Let's Get This Show On The Road

Welcome to my Magnetic Marketing Success blog.

My goal, over the coming months is to share my experiences and lessons learned over the years that have made me, not only a better marketer, but also a better person.

One of the things I love about the network marketing is the fact that you cannot succeed until you step out of your comfort zone and grow personally. It comes with the package. When I got started in this industry, I had no idea what I was getting into. Personal growth was not on my "to do list". I had no idea what kind of path I was heading down. It's been a journey of unexpected twists and turns, peaks and valleys to say the least.

Sometimes I wanted to just give up, but something inside kept pushing me. Something I either read or heard at a training event would always pop into my head like: "A quitter never wins—and a winner never quits" from Napoleon Hill's book, Think and Grow Rich, or "Don't wish it were easier, wish you were better!" from one of Jim Rohn's audio CDs. I’m always amazed at the insight gained from a handful of well chosen words!

As I continue to learn and grow, I hope to make the world a better place in some way. And hopefully, my posts will help to expand your awareness and make the path to your success a little smoother.
